Vincent Kaufmann

Vincent Kaufmann is professor of urban sociology and mobility analysis at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). He directs the urban sociology laboratory – LaSUR at this high school. Since 2010, he has also been Scientific Director of the Forum Vies Mobiles in Paris. After a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Geneva, Vincent Kaufmann completed his doctorate at EPFL on the logic of actions underlying modal transport practices. Vincent Kaufmann taught at the University of Lancaster (2000-2001) and at the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech (2001-2003), at the Université Laval in Quebec (2008), at the University of Nimegen (2010), at the University of Toulouse Le Mirail (2011), at the Catholic University of Louvain (2006-2018) and at Tongji University in Shanghai (2018). His current work focuses on mobility and its links with the transformation of contemporary societies and their territories. He notably published “Retour sur la ville” at Presses Polytechniques et Universitaires Romandes (2014) and “Mobility and free movement in Europe” (with Ander Audikana) at Economica (2017).
